Looking for opinions good or bad on the sailing characteristics or any other opinions of the Cole 32.
Usage would be ocean cruising/ day sailing with the possible overnighter.

That's not Lusty Lady 2 is it?
There is a couple over here that are well bellow $1000 per ft. There is also a couple of S&S 34 around the same asking price, so just trying to gauge what's the better buy that suits my needs.
Just wondering when you say there not the fastest. Compared to what other model? Not that I will be racing.

Yes. At the time she was for sale for about $52 grand, she sold a few years later for less. The Coles and SS34'd will be slower than the same sized modern yacht but much more comfortable. Look at UFO 34's as well.
The Coles have a nice interior.

I had the Bounty 35 which looks like the big brother to the 32 for a few years ,never saw a 32 how do they compare to the east coast?.Raced her extensively with Ocean Racing Club of Vic.
Performance line ball with the SS34. I raced against a well sailed SS34 in bay races as well as ORCV races. High freeboard and deep cockpit equals very dry boat. Stick to Tiller. Lots of room down below with plenty of headroom including up the pointy end. From memory six/ six and half knots on a beat was optimum. There is a lot of room to lie around on topsides.
We had a couple of knock downs when pushing her under kite and she righted easIly.
She could handle all weather with the right sails up and because of deep cockpit felf safe.
Downside was it was a long way to climb back In from tender , felt a large boat to sail short handed ( for me anyway),
I always felt the UFO was a quicker boat .
Checkout the Cole yachts , alot have cast iron keels instead of lead !
I'm not sure , but I think the cav 32 had integral lead keel ..... Mmm good !

I never knew that. I know the bounty built by bounty have lead ,those such as the later Pawtucket built by Cavalier have lead and the 32 built by Merton in WA have lead.

I remember lusty lady 2 being sailed out of Esperance in the late 80's and early 90's
There is a couple of UFO 34 over here so thanks for that.

As far as I know the only Cole yacht with a cast iron keel is the Traditional 31 Cole built by Cavalier yachts.
stone is in WA where there are lots of SS34's, UFO's and Cole 32's. The Cole 32 is more like a fatter version of an East Coast 31. Most of the Cole 32's I have seen are more race orientated than an East Coast 31 though I suspect they are about same speed wise. I would own one.
The Cav 32 does have an integral lead keel along with Currawongs and Swanson 32's etc.
UFO 34 easy choice over Cole 32.
Faster , more space particularly the cockpit.

There have been a few cheaper UFO 34's about lately. Like early SS34's they need a bit of updating. Big and powerful boats that might be a handful solo.
I like this tiller version from a few years back. The photo was my desktop background on my fishing vessel's computer.

^^^ With that spinnaker pole a millimetre off the fore stay and powered up like it is it is no wonder the helmsman is applying leeward rudder like he is. That is a handful.

Bit of weather helm I think. IOR boat, always a handful. Probably the minimum crew too. The size of the primary winches is a good indication of the loads. I saved that photo probably 6 or 7 years ago when I looked just like that bloke sitting up on the rail, hairs a lot greyer now. Desk top picture on the boats computer. Used to come up each morning as I was heading off to work and I was watching a Kalik 33 that was for sail and several UFO's, waiting for someone to buy the business so I could retire. Lots of good boats came and went then too.
They are thumping big winches for a boat that size.
I can only see 4 winches all told. Good safety measure. The primaries are for genoa OR spinnaker, not both.

I think there are nine. There are two aft of primaries ,see red spinnaker sheet , one forward of hatch ,vang? ,and two on mast ,I think for halyards.
Hell I need to go out and do something.
Yeah, I see the guy half covering the stbd spinnaker sheet winch and the halliard winch on the port side of the mast and what may be a winch for the vang in front of the instruments.

thanks Ramona , Ive been calling it a wisker pole, incorrectly. just googled it [ not that i didn't believe you , hahaha ] also called reaching strut .
Looks like a UFO 31 in the pic - the 34 is much narrower in the tail.
The Cole 32 is a smidgen quicker than the East Coasts, Currawongs etc, but these days the difference would be submerged underneath the difference in gear and sailor skill. In their prime the 32s were similar to the Petersons and Hollands in terms of speed.
Actually we are both wrong, it's a 32, the prototype that become the UFO 34. That probably accounts for the different appearance. I would still own one!
