Thumbs Up

Hi folks, I have just about finished an intensive restoration of an H28. This will be the third one I have done and the second to be launched this year. This one is named Karoleeya and was built professionally by Wards in 1958. She is planked all the way in Jarrah (unlike some of the other boats that had oregon or NZ Kauri above the waterline). In the the 4 months she has been out of the water I have reframed her, new side and stern decks, new floors, new sheer strakes, new cabin, new keel bolts, new stern tube and stuffing box, new cockpit, new glass in the windows and completely recaulked and painted the hull inside and out. Sails have been recut and the rig checked out. So in all a comprehensive refit. She will be joining the very active fleet at South of Perth Yacht Club where they regularly race together with 8 boats on Saturdays and 10 to 12 on wednesday afternoon 2-sail races and twilights.
My experience extends from racing Cherubs around Melville Water in Perth in my youth, through trailer sailers, Division I and II on the river, ocean racing along the WA coast to long distance sailing. I have delivered boats around Australia and between Europe and the States. I have circumnavigated the world in my own boat (a 32 foot timber Maurice Griffiths sloop) which included several long solo passages. I have sailed a vast variety of craft ranging from the conventional to oddities like a 60' chinese junk, an 84' Viking longboat replica and a range of schooners and tall ships. I am an accredited Sailing Instructor with the NZ Yachting Federation and the founder of the NZ Maritime Restoration School, a school that teaches traditional boatbuilding.
Sounds like a lot of boasting but really I simply wanted to encourage some folk to come sailing with me and to feel they had a good chance of doing well.
So I am looking for 4 or 5 people to join me to sail Karoleeya at South of Perth Yacht Club for this coming season. First race of the season is October 2nd, 2010. Experience is NOT necessary, but a willingness to learn and to commit on a regular basis to sailing with the boat. Guys or girls are welcome to join or couples (leave marital disputes on the beach though!) In many ways I prefer inexperienced people as they have a thirst for the knowledge to make a boat go- and as for women on boats..... I don't know why there aren't more out there. Typically they can do more than one thing at a time and they are more sensitive to the nuances of wind, wave and the boat's motion.
So lets hear from you
