without bursting the bank ballane what pumps do you use with reasonable pressure to wash down the deck ect. there are so many on the market I don't know which way to go. I don't want buy a pump only to find no reasonable pressure I don't want to spend a heap of cash will only be for wash down ?
Not much in the 12v range. If you have 240v and a couple of Kva it's a different matter. I suggest a quality bucket with a good handle, 25mm rope with a few knots along the length.
Im a bucket bloke....but im interested in a ocean friendly detergent. ..we use vinegar now...anything better, not expensive and easily sourced?
Soft broom and a square bucket of warm water and ALDI patio cleaner. Oxallic acid rips off the crap. Few buckets of salt water to rinse off. The glare is a bit of a problem after.
In the Oct 2011 Practical Sailor, the budget buy was the Johnson Aqua-Jet WD3.5, which I think is Whitworths SKU: 67320 (the Whitworths description does not say the model so you would need to check).
The others are more pricey, the best choice was the Jabsco Par-Max Ultra 7.0.
The Groco C-60 Deck Wash Kit was recommended, as "Its shorter warranty period and greater power consumption kept it out of the top-pick circle". It was the top pick in the 2005 review. Its the only one in the review that does not self prime, it had to be manually primed the first time in testing. It was the highest performer in the test: "The Groco C-60's impressive output and construction, it's built like a tank - earn it our recommendation."
The Jonhson Aqua-Jet WD5.2 was the best choice in pumps with output less than 6 Gallons Per Minute.
The Shurflo Problaster was recommended.

Regarding durability - if you have enough tank water to run deck wash using only fresh water, you're lucky and most pumps should endure.
However, if you will run salt water, then I feel getting a 3 year warranty product may be worth thinking about. I recently saw some Jabsco's in Whitworths sporting a 3y warranty; there may be other brands too.
There is a new player in the marine and RV pump market in oz, Seaflo.
3 year warranty (all pumps have a serial # and if they break under warranty you don't need to send back, just quote serial number for replacement), have a great range and are very well priced.
To give you an idea, the Johnson 5.2gpm 12v pump, filter and nozzle is $279.00, the Seaflo 5gpm 12v pump kit with hose, gun, filter and fittings has an RRP of $240!!
They also have a range of bilge pumps, float switches, impellors etc.
They also do a 4 diaphragm pressure system pump that is a heap quieter than the other brands
