Hi all,
just chasing some opinions on Dick Carter designed yachts. I don't know much about him although I did do the usual google search.
I have seen Carter 33's an assume these are his but interested in the larger 40ft range from the early 80's. Was their a production model or we're they one off custom designs.
any opinon on their sailing characteristics , Especially in open water would be appreciated.
Cheers
Dick Carter was quite a prolific designer his active years revolved mainly around IOR style yachts and were every popular. I think they were generally well built but getting a bit long in the tooth now and for that reason may not present very well.
The Yamaha 33 which was built in Gosford NSW was a Dick Carter design.
The Carter 33s have a great reputation. The centre cockpit version was called the Passage 33. I forget what they called the aft cockpit version but supposedly exactly the same yacht except for deck/cabin top moulding.
I would go aft cockpit everyday of the week no matter which design.
Here is one you could probably own for $1,000 per foot.
$1,000 per foot is a pricing structure/ guide that was prevalent 40 years ago. Funny how it is prevalent today.
