If there is anybody here seriously looking for a fast cruising yacht and has $50k or more to spend, look no further.
"Sun Burst" is one of those legendary Peterson alloy 40 odd footers of late 70s, early 80s vintage and designed around the IOR 2 ton rating rule.
Several are veterans of Sydney-Hobart and Admirals Cup races and Doug Peterson was one of the chief designers for the Yank's Americas Cup yachts.
These great yachts varied in length from 40 to 44 feet and I am told that no two of them had exactly the same hull shape.
Among them were "Inch By Winch", "High Roler", "Battle Star", "Big Schott" and "Envy II" which bitch I owned for 6 years.
Affectionately referred to as "Flat Toppers", they are characterised by multiple winches on deck that appear to be breeding. Unfortuneately most of them were fitted with Barlow winches with alloy drums, which, if you wired them up you could probably run your lights off.
The weight saving of the alloy drums was marginal in the overall scheme of things and all stainless Anderson winches would have been a better option.
Some were fitted with hydraulic vang, back, fore and baby stay tensioners with which one could torture and often break the mast. Break the mast you might but the hulls are near unbreakable.
The original owner of Envy II drove her onto a reef at 8.5 knots and she barely suffered a scratch.
Many are fearful of alloy hulls but built properly I believe it is the best of boat building materials.
Sun Burst is for sale at $45,000 and if I did not already have a Van De Stadt 34 and an S&S 34 (neither of which are seaworthy at present), I would buy Sun Burst in a flash (pardon the pun).
If anybody is seriously interested but does not have full funding, I would consider a provisional partnership.
Here is a pic of her doing what she does best and the astute among us will know where to find the listing.
Cheers.
Petersons are always pretty!
Excellent buy for those who sail with a crew all the time. Might want earmuffs below when beating. I'm in Adelaide at the moment and shall keep clear of Port Adelaide. That 36 foot Peterson that just sold for $39,000 was a better buy! That's a lot of boat for the money.
Best wishes for the new year to you and all our senior service friends.
Cheers and to you too. Re:- Staying away from Port Adelaide. No sense annoying your self is there.![]()
Those Santana 30s hold their price well.
One hell of a quick cruising boat.
Our first ever yacht was a Seaway 25, built by Tom Stephenson for his personal use in the World Quarter Tonner Championships when they where held in Melbourne.
It was constructed from Kevlar.
The Seaway's where designed by Doug Peterson and looked very good.
Personally, I don't think you can beat a yacht that has a good pedigree.
All the best to everyone on this forum for the New Year, it's a great bunch here. lets keep it that way.
Fair winds, cold beer and hot women (if that's your thing) to all.

Happy New Year to all. This is the best sailing forum because it comprises mostly practical sailors who use their boats.
Cisco, which S&S34 have you got. Is it on the S&S34 register?
Best Regards all
