Guys I have an endeavour yacht and am looking at Outboard options. Currently 6 HP but I would like to install a newer motor what brand and type can I expect to fit into the boat in the cockpit?

The Endeavours have a slot in the cockpit area to drop the motor in.

I have a 6 HP outboard right now which came with the boat but would like to get a second motor to be safe, but I am worried I will get a motor which does not fit through the trap door.

Old tech but I love that 6hp/8hp yamaha 2stroke, quiet compared to others and if you can live with the smoke they are a real workhorse. I replaced one with a 5hp honda 4 stroke when 4 strokes started becoming popular but wish I never did.

Tohatshu make a great light weight 9.8hp,, you can check the dimensions on the website

Try and get the quietest one, my tohatsu 6hp extra long leg works perfect, but seems noisy, i think it echo's in the well, does my head in after a few hours

I had a 9.8 Tohatshu and would never touch one again. They are made of crap alloy and corrode under the paint and if you read their warranty it does not cover corrosion under the paint. You can not go past a Yamaha. The 8hp is the same weight as the 6hp and is a top motor. I personally would look at a 15 hp Yamaha 2 stroke or even better a 4 stroke but they are heavy and expensive. What ever you get make sure it is proped correctly to push a heavy boat and not a tinny.

I had a Volvo outboard in my Endeavour 24 in the mid 70's. As long as your motor is not the same what ever you have will be better! What motor do you have? 6 hp is more than enough in a well. If it's a Johnson/Evinrude with CDI packs or similar I would suggest having it serviced. Check the brand and get the number off the plate and see exactly what you have.

Tohatsu m9.8b specifications & dimensions. I got one because its 27kg and 9.8HP. Much lighter than others in that HP range. I put a 4 bladed prop on it at 5 inch pitch to push my 3.5tonne yacht. Works very well, gets it to 5.7knots in calm water, got me over an ocean bar a few weeks back, very happy with it. Being 2 cylinder I find it rather quiet.

I can't speak of dimensions, but my Spacesailer 24 is pushed by a near new Yamaha 9.9 4 stroke. It's super smooth, quiet and lean on petrol. Mine has the dual exhaust system which diverts the exhaust gas away from the propeller when reversing to ensure maximum bite.

I can't recommend it enough.

Might be a case of over capitalization for an Endeavour 24.
