Hi All,
Has anyone had any experience on a Ericson 37 or have any comments about the Ericson's. I've found (with the help of some mates) one in sydney it has it's rigging replaced in 2008 I've seen a survey that was done 11/12 and looks ok but it is a 1974 model! they are asking 35k.

That ones been for sale for a long time, ya gotta wonder why. The other thing with it is, is that they are asking $35000 for it ... gotta be a reason for that too. What is it with that foam rubber tied on with cable ties in the saloon?
Jonathon says he's got a survey for it ... go an read it.
Ericcsons are an American production yacht built in large numbers. That seems like a hell of a lot of boat for the money.
I bought my yacht off Jonathon, nice young bloke for a boat broker. He is Maxiyacht on Ebay. Take a wander down and have a look at it.
Have looked at that one, very pretty looking boat and damn good price. Two things which may need some attention if you were serious about the boat are a rusty galvanised steal structural rib which runs along the hull and somehow ties into the keel bolts. You can see it in the cupboard under the galley sink. Also the seam between the deck and the hull needs some work at the bow.

Sounds like you know the boat well?
Swanson 32's don't have keel bolts, the lead is encased in the fibreglass hull. The galvanised ring probably supports the mast base and runs up the sides for the shroud supports similar to my Currawong.
The Swanson 32 Jaffa Jonathon is selling sounds familiar, I'm sure I have read about it somewhere.
From an old Afloat magazine letters.

Swanson 32 Jaffa
I built a Swanson 32 called Jaffa. She was registered with the AYF and given the sail number 1943. She was launched 7th December 1975 and registered as a British ship Official Number 396359, her gross tonnage 12.11 and registered tonnage 11.67. This information was carved into the main beam attached to the main bulkhead.
Soon after her original registration I transferred her to the Australian Register. In August 1985 I sold her because I had to have major surgery. In the 10 years I owned her we had a lot of fun. She sailed beautifully! I chose the Swanson design and built her like the proverbial ... so I could do some world cruising. Built the right boat, married the wrong woman. Such is life!
If anyone knows how I can contact her owner or know where she is now, please contact me.

I want to here more about the Ericcson. Don't be too concerned about the age of the hull. Its nearly pre osmosis. Lot of timber in the interior, new Nanni etc.
I liked the ericson 37 and could see its potential, it had that good American build quality about it.
Apparently they were well over engineered with the ring frame which tied all the force points of the boat together like the chain plates, keel bolts and engine mounts
My partner did'nt like the idea of buying a boat then having to do some work on it to bring it up to scratch so we walked away.
I have a few photos of the ring frame and bow if anyone interested.
