Hi there
does anyone have any knowledge/experience of visiting the Fairfax Islands.
Especially where and how to get into the lagoon??
We're a cat, drawing less than a metre.
Alan Lucas does not cover these islands at all,,,haven't had a look at Noel Patrick's Curtis Coast guide yet.
thanks

Hi Cisco
very sound advice there.........I appreciate it.
We're heading off beginning September and hope to get as far as LMI and Fairfax before weather sending us home south.
We'll follow the strategy you've provided and see what happens.
A mate called over the other day and said that he had got into the lagoon on a cat...albeit many, many moons ago. He said how the anchorage was so much better than LMI, lying just in between the two islands and he would see the masts in the distance over at LMI doing the pendulum dance.
We'll let the forum know how we go.
Cheers

Hhhhmmmm....yeah....I think I got the gist of Cisco's message.
BTW, thanks again Cisco.....you're always a font of sound advice.
We have a holding tank which we use on a routine basis in Moreton Bay....plus a backup porta potti just in case s..t hits the fan. Too much information maybe LOL.
We are very conscious of being gentle to the places we go and not destroying what we came to enjoy
.
Thanks for the reiteration and watch this space for news/pics when we get there.
Hooroo for now

Tracee we motored past one day with zero wind (very rare) saw a dead humpback surounded by tigers and kept moving as all info said no entrance to the lagoon. Youre going on a bit of a pioneering voyage by the sounds of it? Let us all know how you go and do brush up on the Nazi rules, I got hassled by customs in the same area 2 months ago in the same area on my way Nth then by fisheries at Great Keppel who were Anal but backed off when i showed them that i was fully informed and up to date with the rules and they had no way of bullying me, Most cruisers are a bit Vague on the rules and they know it.
Look forward to the story of the epic voyage
Oh and if you take some High Res pics and write a bit of story you might like to submit it to Cruising helmsman or The Coastal Passage Magazines and you'll be famous!!
I've looked at the zoning and also read what Patrick says in his Curtis Coast guide.
The entire lagoon is zoned green and the islands themselves are off-limits for scientific/preservation reasons.
My other concern is the lagoon was a bombing practice range until 1965 and two years ago, snorkellers found some loaded arms in the lagoon. Apparently the army went out and discharged them but WTF if we happened to drop anchor on one they haven't found yet..... yikes, shudder to think.
I am determined to at least follow Cisco's protocol and have a captain cook. And yes, Hangtime, will definitely take some quality pics and submit an article for CH or TCP. May be my long-awaited career destiny.......god knows I can't see myself finishing the degree I'm half way thru[}:)]
Catch ya

Oh yeah baby!!!!!
The list just gets longer and longer...and then longer still ![]()
I can see why you just stay amongst it up the coast down the coast up the coast!!!!!!!! I already know before we even set off that I won't want to come back to suburbia/reality
. I just want one or the other,,,,,,preferably a boat!!!
Anyhoo, up to the fuel tanks and ..even before I had gleaned your deal, just felt we should just go with lots of small............so finally convinced DH that was the way to go.
He's changed the steering from dodgy ( I mean really problem-plagued dodgy) hydraulics to cable.........at the very least I expect to return with body-building biceps LOL!!!!
It's not only the boat getting ready, but the house and making sure Dad's boat (yes, she's mine, but she'll always be Dad's
) is okay to leave for a few months. Thinking, only yesterday I sucked out 5 litres of oily water from beneath the donk...................ingressed from above methinks/hopes).
Anyhoo, when are you heading back?? Let's make sure we hook up and talk Crowther rubbish, hey??
Hooroo for now
