Husband looking to buy first sailing boat.
He's time poor, so I'm trying to help short-list boats to look at.
Sailing Jervis Bay (NSW) to start with.
Occasional overnighter.
Thought a trailer sailer might be a good first boat, but perhaps a bit small? JBay can be changeable, choppy.
Bit cramped if 2 teenagers came along, too.
Any suggestions?
I can get seasick in the bathtub, so something easily rigged to sail solo (minus me).
On wait list for mooring at Currumbene Creek. Shallow at mouth, narrow channel.
Would like to get a Cat, just think it's too big & expensive for 1st boat.
Thanks
I would suggest spending sometime at Callala at the sailing club or meeting a few of the people involved with the cruising club at JB to get some idea what your husband is allowed to have. Or wander out to Greenwell point for a chat. Lots of boats around the place to buy and it's a buyers market.
For a first boat I would spend as little as possible and aim for something like this boat down the coast.http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Hutton-24-ft-deep-keel-Sailing-Yacht-with-excellent-Yanmar-inboard-diesel-/111802381511?hash=item1a07f0f4c7:g:QiMAAOSw4iRWE6xY
Or some thing slightly larger in Sydney

This boat is in Shoalhaven heads and would suit if you like a bit of maintenance.

I don't know this boat but it is already in Currumbene creek!
I would suggest spending as little as possible for a boat with headroom and an inboard diesel.
old but maybe worth a look is a cat called seawind 24 not much room below deck I'm afraid. Lots of day room
Prices range from $5000 up
But Ive always felt the good old "Top hat" is the best value around for foot for Dollar
they have a great web site
www.tophatyachts.com/
The above link you might find some for sale full head room and comfy for the size a few have circumnavigated Australia
And there's some sea breeze's in here that own some and can give you good advice

That Endeavour 28 looks like it is on a mooring in Woolamia off Coulon Street. The ad says the mooring can not be sold but that is incorrect. The MSB owns the spot but the machinery belongs to the individual and can be sold or transferred. I would suggest talking to Brad the local MSB bloke for clarification.
There are other yachts for sale in Currambene creek too.
Actually, at least two Top Hats have circumnavigated the world; one around all the Southern capes! Top hats are great sailing boats that are very forgiving and just about impossible to get in trouble on. The Top hat web site has lots of info and a google search of Jamie Mitchell Top Hat will bring up the circumnavigation stories. Cheap as chips and a strong, safe, capable first boat IMO.
Hi
Your options are narrowed because you say Currumbene creek is shallow ,only leaves lifting keel or cat , have you considered a Jarcat?
Cheers

There is probably 6 feet even at low tide at the entrance, plenty once your in. Plenty of large yachts there and heaps of trimarans and catamarans. The catamarans and trimarans probably leave their moorings but I have never seen it.
Boatpoint has a Top hat for sale in Huskisson, Jervis bay. That may be close enough?
Currambene creek runs through Huskisson. There are several boats for sail there.
