Hi all
Was wondering if anyone had an experiences with dining on water in Sydney harbour, I'm out Almost every weekend and usually get take away from Doyle's at Watsons bay.
Who else caters for takeaway or dinner via a water arrival?
Love to what you all do if you don't BYO food, or go out on short notice?
Thanks!! ![]()
I can't answer your question but can raise another.
I went to the fish markets last week, by car, and noted that the old yachtie jetty is roped off and appears to be condemned.
No boats arrived while I was there. Is there anywhere to tie up or at least put someone ashore to get some sea food?
There's a rather nice restaurant at Clifton Gardens, with a takeaway downstairs. You can sit at a table and keep an eye on the boat.
PS - It's been about four years since I was there so don't blame me if the quality has changed.
The old Army Small Ships Depot at Chowder Bay is now an eatery, not sure if they allow tie ups, though the jetty is still there.
From what I can remember from when it was still an army base the water was certainly deep enough for most regular size yachts.

Tha main jetty at Chowder Bay would be the Navy fuel wharf which I believe is still operational. You might get told to move from there.

Fish markets has been out f about 6 months. Rude assholes that run that place actually.
I liked anchoring aT manly recently. Big selection of places to eat by the wharf. Leave dinghy on beach, all good.
You might find this crowsourced map of places to eat on Sydney Harbour useful.

I was under the impression that the ADF had relinquished all control of the land and it was all transferred to Sydney Harbour Trust.
Bummer, Chowder Bay was a nice place to work. The rest of the army camp further up the hill is totally decommissioned, had dinner at the Gunners Barracks not so long ago.
You can stop at chowder bay when I use to dive we would stop at the dive shop and buy food. Also the marinas near the spit all have restaurants and with the new destination sydney campaign all offer free berthing. Rose bay has a few shops close bye also.

Army have gone but it is still the Navy fuel depot and Naval waters which are marked with yellow buoys. I can't remember where they are but the Navy area is patrolled and enforced.
Q Station does pizza, etc, beers and wine from the bar next to the beach (rather than the more expensive restaurant just beside it). Very relaxed atmosphere. Leave tender on the sand.
Just be aware when returning to your boat that the area is a penguin sanctuary; they return up the beach at nightfall and are easily spooked.
Oh, and don't tell too many people.
Couple of options up at Cockatoo Island. There's also temporary berths there - fees are $15 for 4 hours or $65 for 24 hours. Limit on length is 30ft, but even my 27ft Soling was a fairly tight fit. Sadly, the Island Bar at Cockatoo Island is closing down (may already be), but there are also other options on the island - www.cockatooisland.gov.au/en/see-and-do/visit/#mod-2004
Just with regards to Chowder Bay - there is also one of those new courtesy moorings there, though it's probably on the edge of what I'd enjoy as a rowing distance
