Just wondering if folk would be kind enough to provide their thoughts/experiences for what kind of boat(yacht) would make for a suitable (safe and comfortable) cruiser to Rottnest during the warmer months.

In my experience, if the crew is a Lady then it is hard to go past a cat. hull. And preferably with some home comforts!
I have a yacht for sale that would be perfect for what you describe.
Its a Sparkman & Stephens 39, bigger sister to the S&S 34 - also a great boat for what you describe.
I learnt to sail with her for the last 3 years - very forgiving vessel for inexperienced hands.
You want a boat big enough and heavy enough to be comfortable when the sea-breeze kicks in.
As it always does in summer. Bigger the boat the better.
This vessel has a 50% balast ratio and is therefore very stable.
The S&S 39 is very difficult to round up so is very safe ocean going boat.
Has a mast hinge so you have the option of storing her in a river pen - much cheaper than ocean pens.
She has done the Syd to Hobart 6 times so pretty sturdy !!!!!

During the summer months, for a Rotto trip, anything from a Red jacket, Red Witch (no need to drop the mast if going under the Freo bridge)to the Sparkman & Stevens as per Sunseeker.
We, mate and myself, have paddeled waves skis across and back without any trouble.
All very dependent on budget and required berths - otherwise the choices are fairly endless
