Hi,
I wondering if anyone can recommend a slipway/boatyard in Sydney (harbour) that has a few trades available or on staff that can handle a haulout and antifoul as well as some electrical and general shipwright work ?
I would love to get my yacht out of the water for a few days and have all the little jobs done in one hit, rather than get all the individual contractors in seperately.
In 'the good old days' boatsheds had all the trades required to look after a boat, however now it seems they only haul the boat then I have to organise all the contractors which is a nightmare when im trying to get a few different jobs all done while she out of the water !
Any recommendations ?
Try Castlecrag Marine www.castlecragmarine.com.au/ Its on Middle Harbour but the journey through the Spit Bridge may be worthwhile if it is traditional all-round service that you want. On Monday nights they run the longest-running twilight race in Sydney too. Nice folk.
Like the economy generally most marine trade service providers have fragmented into self employed contractors with the marina owner often the landlord. many clubs have abandoned the slipways due to the cost of works to comply with environmental requirements.
I note Ryan Short Marine that operates at Fergusons Boatshed Marina at the Spit advertises all the services (including electrical) that you mention. Here is the link to their website boatdeck.com.au/wp-signup.php?new=ryanshort
I use Michael Bartley at Woolwich Marina (not Woolwich Dock) who has does excellent work. Give Michael a call and discuss your needs. His number is 98794222
+1 for Michael Bartley.
However if you also want to be doing some other work yourself, then you would need to find a facility that lets you, such as noakes at north Sydney or river quays.
Another vote for Michael Bartley, he is very busy ATM. If you do use him stop by and say hello, we are on the marina.
Joe Walsh at Woolwich is my rigger and the Woolwich marina does have a good reputation. Castlecrag is also good and used to allow you to work on your boat.
I know you said Sydney Harbour, but if you felt like a little trip north, Careel Bay Marina has all trades on hand from antifoul to paint, electrical, and mechanical. The can also organize a rigger if necessary.
I have a friend with a Northshore 27 moored in Rose Bay who went up because she liked the old fashioned service.
I vote also for Calvin and Clint @ Castlecrag Marina. Nice blokes, very helpful and almost matched the cheapest antifouling quote I could get. They also did some stainless work for me
Cheers
