hi
i have a new furler and have noticed something when I furl the headsail. As i roll the sail up, the furler luff extrusion (see 5 diagram below) rotates and furls the sail, however the tack ring (see 11) which has the tack of the headsail attached to it just lags behind because it is not fixed to anything. I thought it should rotate with the luff extrusion but apparently not. Is there something wrong here or is just the way it works.
cheers

No there is nothing wrong. The tack ring rotation should lag, at least for your model of furler.

Why, it's because the tack of the sail has a bigger reinforcing area and won't furl as tight. If it didn't lag, the foot would roll in more sail when furling. Think of it as wrapping a cloth sheet around a cone, it would not roll as flat as the bottom of the cone draws in more cloth for each rotation of the cone. The lagging tack ring helps make a flatter roll.

It is meant to maintain a better sail shape throughout the reefing range when using the furler as a reefer.

Not all furlers have this feature.

Contender sailcloth in Sydney is the distributor, you could start there. I have no knowledge of what they stock though

My mate just installed a Furlex on a new mast (replacement of broken mast). He used the original drum and halyard swivel but with a new headfoil so parts must be avail.
