I have purchased the g2 Vision upgrade refered to as the premium version and key to exceptional navigation.

The version I have is August 2015 so I doubt doing the 1 only free upgrade atm would not be necessary.

The featurers state high resolution satellite imagery, marine services, coastal roads etc so I expected somthing like Google earth equivalent - sadly not for me.

Anyone else use this system? If how is it for you?

I have the same Garmin software upgrade for my Garmin 75 dv that I still owe $200 on my lay buy.

When I have it I would like to compare notes with you

Blue Chart is proprietary Garmin so I am told and not compatible with anything else except NMEA inputs such as auto pilots and AIS units.

I would like to hear more on this thread.

Hi Cisco
I also bought the 75dv from Bundy and did a trial fit with it.
So far happy with the unit and the transducer seems to work on all functions with in-hull method.
I will be contacting Garmin this week for advice.I

Garmin Help!! After preparing a list and phoning Garmin 'Help' little to no satisfaction was gained.

However, I had also emailed my supplier ie Tackle World Bundy and within a day they had an experienced Garmin person contact me who advised and confirmed all my requirements for the EchoMap 75dv and premium Vision Map. A big thanks to Bart at Tackle World Bundy.

Cisco as you advised a paper type chart is essential as even the premium Vision mapping has many errors - Well that what I have found in my local area being Lake Macquarie.
However at the price paid and my new found knowledge the 75dv and map upgrade will be beneficial.

warwickl, I picked my 75 dv up today and said hi to Bart and he says hi to you.

It will be a while till I fit my unit up as I have a lot of interior painting, a bit of carpentry and a lot of rewiring to do first.

I think pretty much all of the electronic charting brands have holes, gaps and errors in them.

Been a bit wet down your way I see.

Only those that use vector charts. For safety you need a back up system using raster or paper charts.

Yes you are right however I don't think raster charts can really be classified as "electronic" charts.

Apart from the price, the main reason I bought the Garmin is that it is a dedicated unit and is not touch screen. Eventually I will have a laptop on board for entertainment but will probably get Quick Charts to go on it and a puck GPS. Talk about redundancy. I will most likely end up with half a dozen GPS receivers on board.

I will always have paper charts aboard though they may not be updated. For my most used area of operations I will have them laminated matte on the working side.

The navy and the water police use electronic raster charts.

I would suggest that anyone that uses vector charts get a hold of the August 2015 issue of Yachting Monthly and read Tom Cunliff's article on how to use vector charts safely.

The point I was trying to make is that raster charts are photographed paper charts in a file format that allows indexing to the Nav program being used and therefore as near as possible to being as accurate as using paper charts.

They are not photographed copies, they are electronic from the start. They are just not layered like vector charts so the information remains the same no matter what the zoom. The accuracy though is just as bad as the paper charts. The vector charts are simply licensed charts from the same source as the digital raster, various hydrographic offices.
