Hi everyone, this is my first post on this great forum. I need some advice!
I am looking at buying a beautiful S&S30 in Port Macquarie, NSW. But I live in Hobart, so I would have to sail it there or truck it there. On the one hand, I would love to sail it there, but I am a relative newcomer to sailing and this would be my first serious boat and I would need help doing that trip. On the other hand, I could truck it there but I'm not sure of the costs - haven't researched that bit yet.
So, has anyone out there trucked a boat to Hobart? Or can recommend a freight company?Or a good skipper for hire?

hey Tacker , my first thought is to get the yacht ready for the passage over the next few months . do a few sea trials in her home waters and search around for someone experienced to help you sail her down in feb 2018 . usually nice weather around then for the straight . great experience you in the process ........ cheers
Thanks for that SandS. Yes, February would suit me and I could get some practice on the boat beforehand. And it would be a fantastic experience.

If you want to pay someone to sail it down I was talking to John at Boat Sales Tas a few weeks ago and he mentioned that they knew a bloke who delivered boats for them
John said he did a good job, looked after the boat and was not all that expensive
If you are interested it might be worth giving them a call

A mate of mine has sailed a 27 footer and a 32 footer from Sydney to Port Huon over the last couple of years and years ago he sailed a 24 footer back single handed from Airlie Beach in short hops along the coast and has not had any major drama's and enjoyed the trip but i think the main thing is to give yourself enough time to allow for bad weather
If you ask around the clubs in Hobart you might find someone interested in doing the trip with you

Another skipper & myself have done deliveries up & down the coast, & could be available.

Jo Breen works out of Lonny and is a very experienced delivery skipper and a damn top lass. I'm not sure if she will be able to help you out. She owns an S herself.

Thanks Semus. I have arranged a skipper to go with me down to Hobart, thanks to BlueMoon. I haven't bought the boat yet, but I'm sure it will happen in the next month. I'll keep you posted. We've pencilled a January / February departure, weather dependant.

I believe it was a Marauder 24, the 27 was also a Marauder and the 32 a Manitou
