Curious he didnt tell anyone there was an out of control boat sailing around or tell anyone he'd lost his boat please help me get it back. I wonder if it was his and thought he'd better keep it quiet or was he just a twit who didn't care about other peoples time and safety. Maybe both.

You sailed one??!

Until recently owned an old one and mixed fleet race it off a mooring and had a ball.

Cheap to buy, sooooo many cheap 2nd hand sails, great fun tuning and had a ball racing against alot of similar speed boats.

Anyway, on topic, They are easy to fall out of though. i never did but a guy did on another boat and it would be impossible to get back onboard by yourself

Sorry!! but ? This "Dickhead " sails offshore ,falls overboard ,swims ashore ,catches a taxi home and does not contact an authority ,such as the Water Police . maybe he had other intentions ?

I would like to know when are they (Maritime ) going to put a stop to such vessels heading offshore with minimal or no safety at all.

Not to mention the cost on behalf of me the taxpayer This "clown " should be put on social media and made to explain why and made to pay for the search and rescue costs .Then people like this individual might start to think about the consequences for their actions .

Cranky Bear

PS ,I have to wear a PFD to row out to my yacht , but I can paddle a stand-up paddle board and paddle off into the sunset without one !

Not sure i would class Etchells in the sport boat category????? Few of them at my club and they are very competitive they are small keel boats and point extremely well, need a lot of twitching though. But not my cup of tea I sailed one and broke 2 ribs after falling inside the hull (no, was not pissed ).

More like "I didn't tell Dad I was taking the boat out and if I leave it where it is it will look like it was pinched"... LOL

I'm guessing he fell off rooting about with the outboard! It's down in the photo and providing just enough weather helm to steer that boat.

I would prefer if the maritime authorities kept out of it. People should have the right to wander off and never be seen again.

Agree totally with you Ramona, the Government already has too much say in what we can and cannot do, and how we do it, personal responsibility is the keystone to freedom, and a Nanny state is just another totalitarian form of Government.

Agreed but it seems we dumb laws down to the lowest common denominator.

Situation not much different to the WAFI that people spent days searching for east of Wessel Islands only to hear him bragging in the Darwin SC how he had the "stupid" navy out looking for him. He was encouraged to leave Darwin asap.

At least in the end the guy in NSW did in the end tell someone that he was safe.

and yes, me too, sick of stupid rules brought in the protect stupid people from themselves at our expense.

In a village full of idiots there would still be a village idiot.

Muzz, I noticed his tender was still attached to his mooring yesterday but I believe his boat is somewhere out at sea.
The article on page 3 of todays local paper (Central Coast Express Advocate) claims his yacht was snagged on a fishing net off MacMasters Beach. He fell overboard while trying to free the yacht, then swam ashore. ??????

More to come......... maybe...

I am also of the "keep out of my way with rules and regulations".
But, it is all well and good to sail off ill prepared and say leave me alone. When the s..t hits the fan these same people invariably call for help and put other people out to save them. Their bravery disappears with the fear.
It isn't just the solo sailor that is in danger but the people who he/she calls to rescue them.

Went out for a kayak yesterday with my wife and noticed he already has another boat on his mooring.
It is a pretty good upgrade from the Etchell too.
