I was wondering if anyone was familiar with this application from www.theyr.com/gribview.asp

I was looking for a program that can read grib files on a Mac Laptop and give an animated version of the forecast wind etc.

Or is there something else out there worth considering.

Thanks Franrick for your advice. It's always good to hear what other people use regarding the weather. I use a mixture of BOM, Predictwind and Seabreeze (and looking up) to get an idea of what's happening. But can only use the first 3 when I have WiFi. For times when I'm out of WiFi coverage, I am looking at a way to download grip files (either satellite or SSB) and was wondering if there was a preferred program for viewing these files. After having the luxury of these WiFi animated applications I was wondering if there was something similar (without forking out too many $$$) for manipulation of the Grib Files.

Predictwind is suppose to be bringing out a Grib file reader in June this year. But you need to pay about $200/year to have access to the "Off Shore App" that runs on your Mac or PC (not iPad etc). I have this application on my Mac, but as sight unseen regarding the 'Grib File Reader', I'm looking for an alternative Grib File reader just in case.

I have loaded the free Gribview 3.2 from www.theyr.com/gribview.asp and it seems fairly good, but as this is the only Grib file reader I've ever seen, I'm in not position to rate it. Hence, seeing if the 'Brain Trust' can offer up any suggestions.

Hello dialdan, I had a look at zygrib for Mac and you have to nearly be programmer to load it. I loaded Xcode (Mac programming platform) opened the "Terminal" window and loaded the command that would eventually 'compile' the script into a Mac formatted program. Up come the big warning of what might happen to my existing operating platform. I chickened out. I checked the forums for loading the program on Mac and they were all in French. I've use to watch lots of episodes of "Hello Hello" and that's about the extent of my French .

Do you have it on a Mac or are you using the PC version which I presume is a straight forward download.
