Anyone got a recomendation on Haulout yards in Qld that dont charge an arm and a leg for time on the hard. Ive heard of Montys north of Brizbane but they have limited room for Cats and there is a long waiting list. Cardwell is operating again but there is no power at this yard, Ive heard of one in Maryborough, Any reports on this yard? Cisco?
Im up for a hull extension and paint job (Looking a bit shabby).
I acknowledge that there is spelling mistooks in the above post........ Badinfluence please dont jump on me.
In regard to hauling out I have just had quotes from Maryborough and Mackay for a seven day period out of the water the full costs are very similar even though the charges for different items are different.
e.g Mackay/Marybotough pull out and relaunch $320/$252
high press wash $120/$22 per hour do it yourself
Daily charge $105/$84
Live aboard $0 /$20 per week
These quotes are for a 42' leopard cat.
I have hauled out at Mackay the last 2 years you are allowed to do your own work and I believe this is the same for Maryborough. There are a lot of yards these days that are not permitting that.
^^^I read the ad in "Coastal Passage " mag for Mackay and the prices scared me off. Bowen may still be reasonable. Last time I was in Bowen (1993?) the facility was excellent and price good.
I think what you have quoted as a daily charge for Maryborough might actually be a weekly charge if you are talking about "Maryborough Slipway and Sandblasting" on the south side of the Granville Bridge.
They are in the phone book under that name and I am sure Cathy or Debbie will give you the prices based on your boat length etc. Cheers Cisco
Hi
Re my quotes I have checked the email and the website they quoted me $105 per day for the slipway and the website states $2.50 per foot per day which equals $105 for a 42 foot cat.
OK. So you are talking about "on the slipway" not working on the boat "hardstand in the yard"????
From their web site that I am now aware of (didn't know they had one):-
Boat Working Sites
Mono
$4.00 per foot per week (min. charge $140.00)
Multi
$5.50 per foot per week (min. charge $190.00)
Haul out on trailer or Relaunch on trailer
$225.00 each way.
Their web site here http://www.maryslip.com.au/index.html
For your 42 ft cat the Maryborough hardstand rate works out at $231 per week.
Same length boat in the Mackay Ship Yard works out at $514.5 per week.
A floating marina berth at Mackay for a 42 ft cat works out at $432 per week (live aboard).
I have seen luxury motor yachts that travel from Sydney to Tin Can Bay for slipping and maintainance due to prohibitive costs and EPA regulations in NSW.
I still believe Tin Can, Maryborough and Bundaberg are the best value for money boating facilities on the east coast.
There used to be a slipway and yard in the Mackay Harbour and some pile berths but with the financial muscle involved with the development of the boat harbour they probably forced them to shut down.![]()
Thanks Cisco
I ask Maryborough costs of slipping they did not come back with the alternative of hauling out I will contact them again.
Cheers
John
There is a new halout yard in Newcastle NSW if any one is interested, cheaper than Noakes and the operator is a first class ships carpenter, Surveyor and rigger, just for the record.
@ Cisco - Thanks for the info regarding Maryborough, sounds damn good to me. I am hopefully buying a new, (to me) yacht in the next couple of months and was about to start looking for a good yard to do some work.
Once I buy something, I want to slip and antifoul, replace all the through hull fittings, maybe do the prop shaft stern gland, check rudder fittings etc. Get a good rigger to go over the rig and a mechanic to do a thorough service on the engine. As well as a whole lot of work generally to get it ready for cruising. Was thinking of maybe 3 months on the hard.
I like Maryborough as a town and wasnt aware that the slip existed. Seems like a good place to sort out the boat before heading north early next year.
Again thanks for the heads up ...
