Im watching what's happening with that, Hugo Boss is kept at the same marina a few boats away from me. The guys at the marina will be (watching like hawks) too Im sure.
it's a fabulous looking new boat (or it was if it really has sunk) thankfully the two chaps are safe.
but there's going to be some serious questions asked about the viability of the new IMOCA design since so many of the boats have had to abandon the TJV race this year
It must be heartbreaking that along withe the amazing advances these boats bring to the sport, it also comes with drawbacks, such as the structural issues in the new crop of Imoca 60's. I love these boats, I hope they work it out.
Edit: i listened to an interview with Alex Thompson from Hugo Boss. They worked with their sponsor BSC and developed a paint pigment that means you can paint your boat black and it is no hotter in the hull core than white. Cool stuff.
<div class="text_exposed_show">Alex Thomson explains ‘It was an incredibly unusual event and we need to understand why it happened. It was a rogue wave, but we should not have inverted the way that we did. I am now going to go with the technical team and ensure a successful recovery of our new racing yacht.’ Alex Thomson Racing will keep everyone updated via the website www.alexthomsonracing.com
wow,
a full inversion. now that must have been scary, no matter how experienced you are.
