my good old trusty Perkins m50 has been leaking saltwater down the back of the gearbox,
I assumed it was the gasket on the face plate. After fixing it 3 times it still leaked so I got the mirror on a stick for a closer inspection.
Turns out it was leaking from the shaft seal.
Turns out the shaft is pitted.
Turns out basicly replace shaft or pump.
New pump $400

Feel for you....but $400 won't pay a cars rego for a year in mainland Australia.

But a new pump will keep your boat going for many years.

Always look on the bright side

Ok...so $1300....what would that buy...a holiday in Bali that would be over in two weeks and all but forgotten in a year.

No your much luckier too have your boat to spend that cash on

It's the raw water pump ho2 . I have made a decision to rebuild the old one, new shaft engineered , seals and bearings will cost approx total $500 , or $800 for the complete jabsco raw water pump! Good if you could fit a anode. Mate has pitted prob shaft in stern gland due to electrolysis steel boat !

You should only need to purchase the shaft and impeller.
Seals, bearings and o rings are available at your local bearing supplier.
Just been down this road with my volvo penta. Replacement pump cost me $700. Bought the bits and refurbished the old pump, now i have a complete spare

Glad im not the only one going through this...... The raw water pumps are a bit universal but the clutch running into each different motor is he catch, could just divert the dripping water down into the bilge through Bunnings or plastic pipes but might as well kill the job!
