Hey all,
I have a nice little Heron, with polished timber deck, looks quite nice thanks to my sisters garage where it sleeps out of the sun and elements...
Problem is I don't use it cause its out in the burbs, and not near the beach where I live.... I can keep it in my outdoor carspace, around the back, all secured up no probs, but need to have some kind of tarp or something to protect it from cracking up and dieing in the heat or rotting in the rain... any thoughts on keeping her safe, but close so I can use her????
Cheers in advance.
sun will be your worst enemy mate so keep it shaded. tarp would be better than nothing.is the timber varnished or oiled?
im sure some sail maker will have some sort of cover you can buy. how much space do you have in you garage, you could try set up pulley and cradle so the boat can sit in it than winched up to the roof, than you have space to park your car or do what eva under neath.
Thanks guys. The timber is oiled... and received a little bit of cracking on the trip down from Brisbane (when I moved).. so I know dry wood is a very bad thing ![]()
Problem is the boat is kept out in the burbs, too far from the bay, so sailing means adding another 2 hours in travel to your day.... and all the clubs are full up with waiting lists for space.... might sell my pride and joy and get a fibreglass cat... something that doesn't mind the sun so much.....
my wooden boat lives under 3 layers of reflective tarps . temps in the 40's insummer and very little rain. ( hence the lack of use).
if its completely outdoors you need a few layers, and the top tarp does perish over time.
some water would be nice ![]()
