Hi all
I'm planning a trip to the Whitsundays next year. I'm trying to decide when to leave and when to return in order to get favorable winds to and from there. do I need 6 months or can i do it in 3 months if so which months. Tanks in advance.

6 months would be better, You could do it in 3 but miss out on a lot!
There will be times when you're stuck in a port for a week or more waiting for a weather window, The NSW coast is where you will more likely to be weathered in.
Mid winter is a good time to head north, Westerlies will get you SE Qld where the south east winds will take you north, Whales will be seen daily. Northerlies will start around Oct-nov to blow you home and get away from the Cyclone season.
Hope this helps
