does anyone have any ideas about how slowly/quickly Zodiac material deteriorates over time?
for example, would a 2009 French-made Zodiac that has mostly been in storage be an okay buy as a tender?
I would think that should be fine.
I have a zodiac a fair bit older than that. I do have some issues with it but it is always with the glue on a repair.
At some stage Zodiac introduced a cheaper version made from PVC. If it is the original hypalon material it will be fine. Any documentation on the provenance?
Zodiac supply boats built with Hypalon in their commercial range.
Due to yachties being generally lousy bustards with a dollar (sound like you??), Zodiac have met the market with a high quality product at a competitive price in competition with the cheap Chinese knock offs.
You want cheap, buy Chinese rubbish. You want quality, buy Zodiac.
I have no affiliation with Zodiac or Marine Safe Australia, the Qld importers of Zodiac products. I do have a long standing customer association with Marine Safe Australia who have always served my inflatable boat needs beyond what any other will do.
