The BBQ on the Beach should be in November. It is a great sailing event so I'd suggest you delay a bit and join the rally.

Ah that mongrel thing called work... It interferes with the sailing. But without work, well most of us couldn't go sailing..

LHI is top of my bucket list & has been for more than 10 years. I wouldn't even mind if I didn't stop there in the lagoon, just to make a good passage there & see Ball's Pyramid & LH, turn around & make a good passage back.
It wont be this year tho' ....too much preparation time needed to get the old Top Hat where I'd want it for the voyage, what with work & everything.

Never an easy sail but the island is very impressive. Spectacular even.
Havefun and I got there last year on my 4th attempt. Boat failure (with mine and a Cole 43 I skippered in 2013) being the main problem on previous attempts.
I think October-December is the best time to go, before the EAC is too strong and before the very strong nor-easters come in.
Leave with the benefit of a southerly and don't get south of the rhumb line. For whatever reason there seems to be a southerly set near the island so you want to avoid battling that against a nor-easter.
The moorings at Comets Hole are good for boat motion. North Passage better for access to the wharf and facilities. South passage is not a good spot unless you are too deep for the other spots. We spent a couple of nights at the Leanda Lei. It was good in a great location.
Although I am looking at selling Morning Bird I have booked a mooring for this years BBQ, just in case I don't sell or the new owner wants to do LHI with me as crew. The boat is in great nick and ready to go.

Thanks for the replys , we have 4 weeks so a bit of leeway with leaving which takes some pressure off.
