Hi Guys I am new in this game
have a Roberts 32' with a mast slightly bent at the top Can that be repair?
I am from Gladstone Central Qld
if so any advise on a repairer
Thanks
Chris,
From the photo, to me it looks like the rigging tension just needs adjusting. Looks like the starboard upper shroud needs to be tightened a few turns. But it's really hard to know from that photo! Normally I would check for bends by laying at the bottom of the mast and looking up the aft face, sighting along the mainsail slot and wanting to see a nice straight line. Like cisco says, best bet though is to get a rigger to look at it. Shouldn't cost much, especially compared to the cost of having to replace the mast. ![]()
If the mast is genuinely bent, DO NOT attempt to sort it out yourself! You will need specialist work in that case.
to me it looks like i has gone sideways under compression, i doubt it is the cap shrouds being uneven. to check, back your lower shrouds off a few turns and see if it straightens out. i suspect it wont as the bend appears to be in an area well above the spreaders and is unlekely to be effected by lower tension
