Does anyone know the channel and the tide and draft required for heading upstream to Wondabyn station? Perhaps a gpx track?
We were thinking of anchoring there for a week or so in November to catch up with family in the central coast and Sydney before sailing home to Tassie.
Never been brave enough to venture into Mullet. I don't have a depth sounder on mine and the channel looks very shallow and narrow. General rule around the area, if there are no moorings.....
If you do go in, post a log for us tho.
I've been up probably 20 or so times in a tinny, there is some good fishing in the creek because the trawlers don't (or rarely) get up there.
There is a group of moorings about half way up, eastern side, and a big deep hole up the end.
Main boats I've seen up there are cats, and smaller motor boats- but, at Easter, and it may have something to do with bigger tides around Easter full moon, I have seen a couple of large riviera style fly bridge cruisers moored up the end. Large say, 44 or 48 ft......they have all their toys out, jet skis, windsurfers etc.
So it is possible, I'm afraid I can't help with the channel.
We normally keep to the outside of the bends, and err toward the railway line side......rising tide on the way up, there is plenty of room near the station to swing.
I use a fishfinder as a sounder so I can watch for any shoaling trends and stop before an impact. It may only be Negotiable on a spring tide as my draft is 2 metres.
There appears to be some moorings in the basin near the station which has sparked my interest in visiting.
I have a data logger system to record depth and gps track which will post on teamsurv if I make it in.
Alan Lucas's Cruising the NSW Coast has some good info. He shows the channel on the west side, with a shallow "bar" at the Point with 0.8m at LWS.
Thanks Yara,
I have one of his guides, I will check it out closer to Nov when I am back. Off to Tonga tomorrow, well in about 10 days time we should be close.
