Does anyone have first hand experience of anchorages along the South Coast of Kangaroo Island. The South Coast is the path less sailed around due to the big Southern Ocean swell and a shortage of good anchorages. Nevertheless if the right conditions (as in SW, W, NW or N winds) it looks like a great place to sail.
I've pored over Volume 2 of Graham Scarce's "A Cruising Guide to Historical Gulf Ports" as well as James Cowell's "Anchoring and Anchorages in South Australia", but there's not much info about this part of the world.
At the SW corner of the island, Weir Cove or Weirs Cove (36°3.1'S 136°43.2'E) is protected from SE thru W to NW winds, although big SW winds bring swell into the cove.
Further east, the southern end of Vivonne Bay, just north of Point Ellen offers similar protection (35°59.6'S 137°11.1'E).
I'd be interested in first-hand info about these anchorages, as well as any others.
