I am looking around for a new main, would like kevlar full batten type, anyone has bought chinese ones? any web site (Oz or china) to recommend?
Where are you from and what sort of boat??
You are much better getting a local sailmaker who has a loft overseas to sort the sail for you as if you have issues you have someone to help out. They will also come to your boat and measure everything meaning if something is wrong it's their responsibility.
OR
Alot of the smaller lofts do some pretty good pricing as they have small overheads and offer good personal service.
Hey mate, got my last main made by quantom sails in melbourne. Was very well priced and if its racing you are after they know their stuff. So 1 vote for quantom.
Just saw you're in WA.
I would try either Dubbo @ Extreme Sails in Freo
www.truelocal.com.au/business/extreme-sails/fremantle
or
Paul Eldrid @ Evolution Sails in O'Connor
www.evolutionsails.com/sail-lofts/australia/perth
Both top blokes who know their stuff and local conditions.
Get a quote from the locals first then try that other ex local Rolly Taskers. I think his main loft is in the Phillipines. Even the locals will probably have the sails made overseas and stick on their logo. Ask them if they make them on site.
I personally would go quality Dacron, My next sail would be from Hyde sails{Asia} from their racing line in Challenge cloth.http://www.hydesails.com.au/voyagerrace
Thank you guys for the links, yes it is for my Farrier as the main is a bit over worked and doesn't hold a shape anymore
.I will try to get some quotes and decide on price, the one on ebay looks good, have to get the size of my old one and see if it fits!![]()
The ones on Ebay are from a Stingray Cat and might be a bit small.
If you have a Farrier in WA contact Richard Pocock at Fremantle Sailing Club. he has had a few Farriers and knows who makes good sails for them in Oz.
I agree with above.I thought you maybe looking for a sail for racing but if you are just looking for new pinhead sail, because they are great for solo and cruising aswell, then go standard. If your looking for big square head then talk to qauntom.Rather than mess around getting em cut down, you got the tri for a bargain so you wont lose.
to plan for 720 is:
Luff 8.72
Leech 9.1
foot 2.95
I have seen some acceptable fareast sails, ok if you want triangles with eyes in corners to go on telegraph pole masts. But I have seen a few on ex-racing boast with bendy rigs where the sail needed personification in its design. They were terrible and dangerous, to the point where they affected the integrity of the rig.
