Just about to sandblast the bottom of my boat and paint it with POR15. I was wondering if anyone has any stories about POR15 that I should be aware. The supplier says it's good and I have spoken to a guy who works in a slip yard and he said he wouldn't use anything else. I was wondering if any customers who have used this paint system are of the same opinion.
More information needed before a qualified opinion can be given.
Are we sand blasting a steel, aluminium, timber, fibre glass or ferro cement hull?
Is there some reason why you would distrust the word of the guy at the slipway?
Is he prepared to back up the product he is selling?
Is the product being applied according to the manufacturer's recommendations?
Does the product carry any sort of manufacturer's warranty?
What is POR15? Is that a brand or a varity of a brand. Who makes it?
I can tell you that PA10 is an excellent etch primer for aluminium and will take just about any paint system over it. It was an "Epicraft" product but I believe is now an "International" product. Cheers Cisco
I've used POR15+ for a couple of applications.
1) on my Harley's alloy wheels I used their clear coat over paint. It's been there for almost 5 years now, with little sign of deterioration and has been jet blasted more than once.
2) on my Fiat X1/9 rust. If done correctly, the rust will not return. It's all to do with the way the paint cures.
3) on my Harley frame. Not that it's prone to rust, but it is a very, very hard coating and is very hard to chip or sand once on.

So, if it's on a steel boat, I'd say it would be very suitable, but it must have a top coat of some other type as it's (or wasn't when I used it) UV protected.
