I'm looking at getting a first yacht about 8 metres. I've seen the Pacific yachts for $10K to $16K and was wondering what they were like. I'm looking at sailing in bays and up and down the coast around Sydney.

This is a tough one, simply because there are simply hundreds of yachts that meet your criteria. Its also been covered in similar threads over the last few months and there are plenty of recommendations.

My advice would be to spend plenty of time talking to owners of Folkboats, Endeavour 26's, Adams 26's. Tophats, Supersonics etc.

Its a buyers market, take your time, if you buy the wrong boat it will be hard to sell on.

Thanks Ramona
I've read a lot of the posts about the Endevour and Cole yachts and have been asking friends. i thought the Pacific 27 looked like a good allround yacht for what I wanted. They also had a deisel engine and a head (ive got a wife and a few daughters). i was interested in how the Pacific 27 would go hopping up and down the coast as i have no plans to sail to places like NZ or Tasmania but might in the future sail up to Queensland.
Once again thanks for the input i'll keep reading and asking.

Diesel engine is nice, but with a wife and daughters then full headroom and an enclosed toilet is a must. Compass 28s {or Northerers} same designer as the Pacifics are often down to your prescribed price range

I guess, with kids and sailing around you have to look at Columbia 27.
Preferably later model and resale value is always there.
