Hi all, new here, trying to find the history on our Peterson 30 "Wildflag" built about 81 or 82 raced heavily at Middle Harbour, by Robert Miller. Won several races & division champs according to plaques on the compression post. She is alive & well and still goes like a rocket in the right hands. Any info would be welcome. Sail number was/is still MH110

Cheers, Ken

Hi Ken. Welcome to the forum. Most Peterson 30s in Aus are Santana 30s built by Northshore Yachts. Someone on the forum used to work for them long ago and may be able to help.

I had a Peterson 42 many years ago. I think all of his yachts have been winners. I nearly bought a Peterson 30 last year from Lake Macquarie but it was a bit too much of a project. She was called "Heaven Can Wait" but was originally named "The Riley" as in the Riley car. Under that name it was club champion for several years running.

I ended up buying a Lotus 9.2 with which I am very happy.

Thanks Cisco, was built by mainbraith yachts, possibly 1980, has a long cabin top, all Santanas I've seen have quite a different setup. This old girl was set up for 1/2 ton racing, preposterously tall mast & fractional rig... Scary at times but we love the fat old thing.

I would suggest a search on "Sailing Anarchy". Petersons often get a mention.

Also worth a look at the quarter tonner site, they have stuff on half tonners too.

Thanks Ramona, boat is very well known up here (Cairns) thanks to its colourful previous owner. Will check them out.
Taking her over to Fitzroy island or one of the cays for the long weekend, new deck paint & cockpit cushions to christen

Too bloody cold to stay onboard down here. I'll fit my rebuilt alternator and try to get my salt water pump off to fit new seals. Might go look for some whales.

Pretty cold up here too, a chilly 20 degrees tonight, with a max of about 28 tomorrow. Bloody winter

Seventeen miles straight out the Cairns Inlet is Upolo Reef and Cay. There is a marked channel on the south side through which the Diakyo cats used to roar at 20 kts in the morning out and afternoon back from Michaelmas Cay. Step out of the channel at Upolo Reef and do a bit of snorkelling there. It is fabulous. Then mosey on down to the cay end later in the day. You could pick up one of the charter operator's moorings for overnight or go in closer to the cay and anchor in good sand holding.

Be careful swimming there as tides can be strong. They are what have formed the cay.

If you are going out to Fitzroy Island be sure to have a Makka Spoon out on a trolling line. In a sou'easter which you will have, you are near guaranteed to pull a good sized mackerel which will BBQ up real nice at the National Park BBQ area. When you catch it, kill it , bleed it and gut it, then stuff it with something interesting. Bananas and onions are a suggestion and sprinkle it with some sesame oil, wrap it in alfoil and cook it on the BBQ plate about 15 to 20 mins a side, unwrap and gobble. I am drooling already.

On Sunday you should have a nice sou'easter blowing and what better opportunity to slip out to Thetford Reef, a magical spot. With a bow lookout wend your way right into the inner basin and drop your pick or you might even pick up my old mooring. The snorkelling there is as good as it gets. Spend the night there and on Monday with that sou'easter still blowing you will have a beautiful run home to Cairns.

Remember the rule in this room. Photos and or videos or it didn't happen.
