Hi guys.
Just wondering if anyone in Perth knows the whereabouts of Pilgrim. It's an S&S bought by Jon Sanders from a Tim Ratten from Esperance in the late 80's.
She raced out of Esperance through the 70's and 80's against my father in his VDS and as a kid she was a pretty inspiring yacht. Her hull was the best brightest blue I've ever seen on a yacht.
If she is still around be nice to check her out again.
Cheers ![]()
Hi, I may be wrong, but Pilgrim was a sistership to mark twain, both S&S 39's
From what I read some time ago, the name was changed to Perie Banou II by Jon Sanders
Happy to stand corrected by more knowledgeable members
Cheers
Rick
I reckon you might be right. From memory ( I was 12 ) she was bigger than a 34, had a flush deck, teak maybe.
I looked on the 34 association link and saw a few familiar names. (EOS)
Jon Sanders bought it after his 3x world trip. I'll look through dads old photos and post up.

The S&S39 story rings a bell with me too. I have a contact who was trying to develop a register of 39s. Send me a message and I'll pass it on to him.
This the boat?

Mark Twain and her sister ship Pilgrim now known as Perie Banou II and now owned by Jon Sanders, had major battles on the race course in their time, and when they last meet, the competition started as though it never stopped. Mark Twain beat Perie Banou II by the same margin to Hobart, last time they met - 4 hours.

PB2 was at Royal Perth annexe at Fremantle when I was there in 2011.
Last race I knew she did was the 2010 (I think) S2H and I don't recall her doing alot since then.
Actually looking on Google Earth she is still there I think.
Yes Jon Sanders owns PB2 , I passed her leaving Royal Perth Yacht club a few months ago, Not sure where she was heading or what John is up to lately.
We are compiling a list of S&S 39's of which Pilgrim/PB2 is one. Granted a non standard version, its seems to have a quite different layout.
John is yet to furnish us with some photo's so he is not on the website yet - hoping he will soon.
If anyone knows any other 39 owners please send them my way.
We only have 3 on the site but we are awaiting photos from about 6-7 yachts

Yeah, you are all right to some extent - Jon still owns her and she is variously penned at RPYC at either the Crawley / Matilda Bay clubhouse ar at the RPYC Annex at Freo.
She underwent a major refit in ~07/08. I crewed on her for Jon in the 09 Hobart, entered as 'Seahold Perie Banou II' for the sponsor. We ended up doing pretty well, out of around 100 starters we finished:
Line Honours 90th
IOR Overall 14th
Division 4 4th
Needless to say happy with that!
A couple more of Perie Banour II (nee Pilgrim) from 09 S2H.
First one is off Tassie in about 35-40kn of following breeze - conditions made for a nice ride downhill.
Second one is New Year's Eve in Constitution Dock.
I don't know much about Pilgram however my father used to own Mark Twain in the late 70's, apparently it was the last S&S 39 biult so the frame for the moulds was left inside, making her practically indestructible. He gave her a complete overhaul and re paint changing her from navey blue to white and black, will see if I can dig up some of the old photos to post.
