Mmmmm. I am berthed here & think this is very poor form by the manager. I can tell you there was plenty of room available.

Unfortunately we do not have a lot of options in our area.

Yes, Dave told me about it when he had moved his yacht. I have heard many complaints about the "make it up as you go" policies of the marina manager.

I have the Port Marina rates sheet in front of me which lists day, weekly, 4 weekly, quarterly and half yearly rates.

If one stays for 5 days on the daily rate, it is the same cost as the weekly rate so if one wants to stay for anything over 3 days they are better off staying for a week, which is fair enough.

But in the situation of an imminent cyclone and persons seeking alternative shelter, for him to just declare the minimum stay to be a week is just pure bastardry and amounts to false advertising.

Since the 2013 floods causing destruction of Midtown Marina, the Port Marina has a virtual monopoly on the river.

It is very poor form indeed and I think the management should be taken to task over it legally.

I think you will find they have the freedom to charge as they see fit to balance supply and demand. While it may not be necessarily a "nice" thing to do, they are a business not a charity as the commenter noted.
The two times I have stayed there, some years ago, it was a great place to stay.
