Here's another nasty one to watch out for, the western end of Nelson bay the closest one to the marina there's two buoys on it one partly sunken covered in barnacles ! During the tide turn last night I thought we had run up on a reef ! Oh well it's only paint glad I got a steel boat.
There is three curtesy moorings east of the Nelson bay marina entrance, it's the western most one of those. Both the new mooring bouy and the old one are now lashed together
I never regret throwing the pick in at Nelson Bay, plenty of room between the courtesy mooring you mention & the yellow hire boat moorings, saves the bang, bang, bang of the buoy & the hard to get off scuff marks.

We are hearing you loud and clear got the anchor out in Salamander bay and its peacefull. Recon we might be in Port Stephens for awhile more. How tight is it for anchor around the lemon tree passage way ?
There is another one to avoid in eastern Shoal Bay, just to the north of the motor vessel SCORPIO ACG 676N which has an excessive length of rope on his private mooring.
Looks OK until you get a SE SW wind and then you will find him laying along side of you or worse backing into you.
I am in the process of laying a complaint about what he did to me.
Haven't been to Lemon Tree Passage, we usually go up to Fame Cove.
Have you been to Fame Cove yet woko? Its like mooring in a swimming pool (no real problems with any of the five courtesy moorings there), plenty of room to anchor in any case.
Not sure about Lemon Tree Passage, I haven't been there for ages. I usually provision at Nelson Bay, then sail the hour to Fame Cove, (spent half of last month in the Cove waiting for weather).
There is also a good courtesy mooring at Karuah, & the RSL there is good for lunch, when in Port Stephans I usually find myself back at Fame Cove each night, because it is so quiet & protected.

Will head over to fame cove today sounds neat, we anchored a couple of days in tanilba bay no complaints there. Went to karuah to. The gaff is a spray I've been watching with interest the incident outside.
Fame cove gets five stars ! Nice and sheltered, good fishing and no internet ! Gotta love it. Hope to go out to Broughton island tomorrow
Still in port Stephens, and loving it ! waiting on the weather,Saturday looks good. Depends on what TC Debbie gets up to. Still want to have a look at Broughton on the way out. Did a road trip to the Clarence last week, it was a bit muddy so in no rush to get home.

Yeh, on the way south when it would have been to our advantage it wasn't happening, we looked for it ! Boats well outside of us weren't doing any better. We will stay in closeish. Is there any EAC mapping / predictions ?? Or is that another thread

Absolutely, it took me 3 hours to get from Edith Breaker to Sugarloaf Bay last month, had to go outside of the outlying Seal Rocks as the sea & swell(but with very little wind) was making it too dicey to go in between the rocks & the mainland.
I reckon the current was at 3 or even 4 knots in close to Seal Rocks, it certainly was 3 or 4 knots out around the 100m depth contour, which was very enjoyable on the way down the coast, consistent 8, 9 & 10 kts SOG, highest speed 11.2kts current & swell assisted SOG was awesome fun in the little junk rigged Top Hat
If you want to go the Broughton, on a different trip I spoke to a local at Karuah & got some local knowledge, he said North/Providence Bay at Broughton is ok in a NE'er upto 20 kts, I was a bit sceptical but it was fine in a 15 kt NE'er one evening before a southerly came in, the outlying rocks there dampen the seas and swell nicely, good anchoring in sand, there is also 1 courtesy mooring.
