$580 later I have a new machined drive shaft , bearings and seals and no dripping salt water!
you can see the state of the old shaft after 2500 hours salt water is a real killer!

What design seal is it just a double lipped seal or a mechanical seal ?
Id be out the wreckers looking through all there car water pumps seeking out a mechanical seal that might possible be fitted if there a problem
Hate it when you have a recurring problem
The only problem I have is Me Ha Ha

I only have another 20 years to clock up 2500 hours before I go from semi-retired to retired! I think by then replace the Perkins or the boat!

Next job is to replace fuel and oil filters. Some dik wrote the date on the existing filters God knows how many hours they have done!

Date is best. Replace the oil and filters every six months or so no matter what hours have been done. Now that I have written that I better do my own. I change my cars oil and filters once a year even if they have done only a few K's.

That $580 is not that bad really. That shaft would have accounted for most of it.

why is date best, oil and fuel filters are changed over hours.
It Would be a waste to change fuel filters dated 2015 if only 10 hours have been put on the mains When they are recommended to change at 100 to 200 hours?
all I know is my main was changed on the 9/2015 and I personally since 1/2016 have put 40 hours on the mains. If they logged the hours since the change I would know roughly when a service is due.
