Hi Guys
We'll be sailing from Hobart to Perth in January via Port Lincoln. I'm just starting to passage plan and am looking at safe anchorages in case the weather gets up or we have a problem.

I thought I'd ask for local knowledge on hidey holes along the route, then look into them more deeply

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

The best harbour in Vic would by Portland, for you as a overnight or shopping.
Further west, SA guys will advice you better than me,
Port Lincoln is a beauty, I used to sail top of Spencer Gulf.
Weather forecasts for that area is hopeless, strong current and shallows, big snappers and shark alley. lovelly isn't it .

There is not much in the way of good anchorages but if the swell is down and the wind south east then SouthEnd, Robe and Beachport might suffice but wouldn't stay long. Granite Island at Victor Harbor is probably a bit better.

As soon as your west of Victor harbor then just go and buy the Jack and Jude e-book on south Australian anchorages. For $5 your negligent if you don't buy it.

From my armchair cruising guides

Toghill reccomends
from port phillip ,Loutit bay (lorne) bit risky , apollo bay safe as houses once inside , warranambool bit risky , port fairy as for Apollo bay , portland as mentioned , port macdonnell , robe as mentioned victor and kingscote harbour's then port adelaide
i have made many circumnavigations using these guides from my lounge chair
hope one day to really use them as intended but by then they will be hopelessly out of date

instead of more suggestions, I draw the way I would plan it.
King Island, Portland, Robe
Backstairs Passage,
back up port...American River, Kingscote
Investigator Strait
Althorpe Island...is a must stop overnight ..100% safe except N.
safe hiding & overnight...Wedge and Thistle Is.
Port Lincoln
on the way from PL to West, warning between Thistle Is and main land
atrocious current and rocks, yacht can't handle, to be avoided.
