Ok...i am new to this section but i didnt really know who to ask ??? Can anyone give some good advice?
Have alot of boat experience and some friends who went from diving to cruise shios so have asked them too....but.......i want to sail from aus to south america. Or rather crew. Or even go on a cruise ship. Prefer to sail. Heaps of seatime.
Take my kites....maybe stop off mid pacific (joke) for a session
So..... where do i start looking ? All the crewfinder websites have heaps of popups
Does anyone have any advice ? Many thanks...
Auckland is a common jump off point for heading across the Pacific. Westhaven Marina there is the biggest in the Southern Hemisphere. You could pack your bag and get the 747 boat across to there and hang around all the sailing clubs in Auckland which fortunately are walking distance from each other. Look on the notice boards and post a crewing position wanted, Friends of mine have been doing Auckland to Tonga etc every year for years and sometimes they sail in company. Doing that adds a bit of credibility as to being a real potential doer as opposed to gunna which appeals to the skippers.
Thanks trek
What month is that and what are the bad non doable months?
Is gumtree auckland a gold place to look then?
Sorry Im not an expert at it, I only sailed around NZ, we didnt go across to the islands. What I did notice is that the guys that do it dont pay much attention to online stuff because there are so many who say they will do this or that but dont. You have to be there with your bag packed to be taken seriously. There is a season to head north from Auckland but I dont know when it is. Hopefully some cruisers that read this might help you out.
Ok cool will research it thanx so much...being in w a rocking up in auckland is a bif of a gamble...any ofher leads or links.looking gumtree now..
