Hello,
I am about to purchase a yacht located in the mandurah marina and i need to get it down to bunbury.
I have never completed a long voyage, just some day sailing around koombana bay.
Its 100kms and was just wondering if there is anything i need to look out for?
Any tips on doing this successfuly would be appreciated.
Thanks
Sound advice Cisco thanks :)
Yeah, the previous owner is taking me out for a sail on tuesday and will take possession of her after the test sail. I then have 30 days to move it from its current pen at the marina.
I wll try pick a day that has no wind or westerlies or easterlies. Possibly no chance of northerlies but dont want to battle a strong headwind all the way down.
Wow Rod, what a generous offer. I might have to take you up on that :)
I'll see how i go on tuesday.
Cheers
Looks like you have time on your side, and support by the looks of it. Pick the right day and you will be fine as long as you follow Cisco's thoughts. What is the Yacht? Happy days.
There are not too many traps on this trip. I have only done it in a stinky from Freo, but my current tub draws more then my last yacht (wich was wing keeled), And there is a stretch where you can be a matter of metres from the beach.
It has been a few years since I've actually sailed, but if you need a hand I can also, help, out.
Early in the morning you could well get an easterly which would make life easier.
Two on the boat is do-able but three is better because the trip can take 12+ hours on a bad day.
Take plenty of water.
Take a proper way of calling for assistance if needed
Apart from that keep Australia on the left and you should be fine.
Thanks all,
Am all geared up and ready to set sail.
Looks like next Thursday will give some decent easterlies so I will leave then if the weather doesn't change.
