Ok, with all the talk about furlers, hanks etc in the othe r topic, what do you do to service your furlers?

I love simple things and believe in the kiss principle.

I tend to keep my headsail down below out of the sun hoist and furl it just before use, or periods of use......e.g winter it is down below, summer, (cyclone season) on the furler.

i have had no issues, and yes wrap the sheets around the headsail a couple of times and cleat off the furling line.

So in the last 3 years, my furler has had no other attention. I know I am being lazy , but what servicing do furlers Require and how often.

I would imagine some grease into a bearing somewhere , the masthead swivel should just swivel.

What else is needed?

I recently fitted a new Profurler and on reading the manual I noted it stated no servicing was required other than the occasionly wash with fresh water.
Must have sealed bearing system.

I did grease the old Furlex furler every six months which made it easier to furl.

I try to sail at least once a week all year round. My headsail maintenance consists of me gazing at it occasionally. We probably have enough rain here to keep the salt down but I think if I was to do something it would be to pour a bucket of warm water with some truck wash over the bottom.

Supersonic, what brand/model is it?
Seabird, the most common issue with Profurl furlers is the grub screws, check them once a year with some Loctite 270 to re-set any that have raised their heads.
Harken, Furlex, Schafer furlers it is important to grease the bearings every 6-12 months to keep them going for years to come.
