Hello
I am thinking about buying an old Hood 23 shoal draft as I can put it on a trailer. Problem is it is missing the centre board, I don't know if it originally had one or not . The owner has not sailed it because of health reasons. I suspect it would not point as high to windward without it . I know someone who has sailed one without c/b ,he thought it was ok .. Some thoughts on this would be most appreciated ..

Gday. Hey....if you could pick up something around the same money with a cabin I would seriously consider that instead. Um...we put our trailer sailors up on bricks and a few bits of 4x4 pine in the past in the back yard to either fix trailer or do stuff to boat. It's easy enough to get steel plate cut if you need. The way I sail my hood and the conditions I stupidly go out in sometimes I wouldn't get far without the keel....so I dunno how you would go without a centreboard if you really needed to get home on Sunday arvo in some rough stuff?

The cost of a new trailer is going to be substantial- maybe $5 to $7k, and launching not that easy.
Replacing the centreboard is not a big job.
Unless you're really into the Hood 20 or 23 there are much better trailer sailors out there, price wise and launch ability.
And that's coming from somebody who's on his 2nd, and as much as I love them my last.

You can buy a basic Top Hat for the price of that trailer
Thanks everyone for your replies on SHOAL DRAFT HOOD, I have a trailer that I would like to put a shoal draft yacht on to but can't find anything yet . Most of the hoods have soft decks so will steer away from them.. The Endeavour 19ft sounds ok but a bit small. The tailer is 23ft long . cheers Bertolini
