Hi all,
I think I want a cruiser/racer and I am limited to the size I can put on my mooring.
This is the best I have found but looks overpriced.
Do you agree?

The link hasn't worked.
Is this to race at Cronulla or somewhere else?
What are the limitations you have?
what about a ross830 or young 88 both a bit faster

Both the Ross and Young are great boats. Just pick the boat that you think is best value for money.

It is a buyer"s market, make a very low offer and see what comes back from there, you may be surprised.
Use strategy: get your friend to make an offer very very low and then top it Worked for me

Great boat, we have a 1984 one.
I think it looks pretty good, has some nice gear. I would just get motor properly assessed as this would be about 5-6k for a fully reconed Bukh.
Also what condition is the rigging in.

Hi Bundeenboy

In the original post you said you are limited in the size of boat you can put on your mooring which makes me think you might prefer a larger boat

Is there any possibility of upping the length allowed on your mooring because here in Tassie if there is room around the mooring for a larger boat MAST who regulate the moorings will change the length of the mooring to suit a longer boat

Regards Don

And if you're happy with the 8mtr bracket, I would humbly suggest a Ross 780? Great crossover boats.

Quick question are you taking the bride sailing if so there are only two option in that range, north shore 27 and cav 28.
Why?
Each has a proper enclosed stand up head With a proper door.
Sorry.
Girls don't camp! (Not for long anyway)

Hi all,
I am limited to 26 feet at the moment although the msb may allow a bigger boat later.
I have not found a Ross or Young that looks good in NSW.
I am inspecting a S&S S80 on Monday. Where do you rate them?

This is very bad advice. It is dishonest. How would you like that approach used on you if you were selling a boat ?

Nothing wrong with it just as bare as the adams for cruising but the adams is half the price. I am pretty sure the adams is much faster also.
I raced on an adams 8 for about 6 seasons they even use to do the short offshore races but I would not like to be offshore in a decent blow in one.

I agree with everything you said.
I will try and estimate what it will cost to make it good again, and do I have the time.
The S&S looks in great condition. I am viewing that on Monday.

S 80, great boat let down by a cast iron keel unless it is one of the last built with lead keel.

So I have to ask the question. Why let down? Rust?

Not at all it is making good use of a buyers market, had it done to me when I sold my Farr that what gave me the idea, the guy that did it was not that clever..... he use the same phone number .
Was not in a rush selling so I did not fall in the trap!
Ebay is different some peeps get family and friends to bid to up the price and when you make an offer it is a binding contract. That is dishonest in my book.
Prefer dealing with peeps doing strategy than time wasters that come to have a look and pick every little scratches to offer a ridiculous price, most of the time they don't have any intention to buy the boat, or want to go for a sea trial. I ask for a $100 deposit to go not refundable if the deal is not done except if the boat has a big fault not mentioned at first inspection (leaking water, dead engine.....)

Look at all the rest Bundee, but the Northshore 27 is a beautiful little boat.
Dad had one with a furling heady, sailed it single handed no worries, club raced, had a ball with a couple of his mates.
Best boat he had.

I have looked at the Adams 8, and the Swarbrick SJ8 which both require considerable work. My feelings are I would rather pay more and get a better boat but I really enjoyed the speed of them in very light winds.
I have not been able to contact the owner of Boss Ross. If anyone can help me here it would be good.

What sort of work was required on the Adams? Looks interesting to me if some changes go the way I hope workwise.

(And, of course, I get permission from the dept of war and finance)

I finally bought the boat I wanted.
I had two inspections and a sail
I picked it up this morning and put it on its new home.
I am relieved and happy.
Its a light weight racer/cruiser.
I would like to give a big thanks to all those who offered me help in this decision.

Congratulations, good buy. Better than the Northshore 27.

Don't buy expensive electronics, just the minimum.

spend your $ on good sails if you are going to race.

Congratulations you are now a PBO (poor bloody owner) The S80 is great boat, my brother have one for a numbers of years and never had a problem. If I remember correctly the rig is the same as an Etchel, so if you want sails you should be able to get quality second hand ones as these guys usually get new sails well before their use by date.

My new purchase is berthed at C4 @ CYCA until the new year.
Anyone interested is welcome to look at it.
A name change is on the cards, and I am guessing I just do that when I register it in my name.
As the servey is three years old I expect it will have to come out of the water to be inspected before any company will insure it?
I am having another look at it today and will start to make plans as to the work that 'needs to be done'.
Initially I am having the rigging checked, and will go from there.
I have benefited greatly from all the advice so far. Please feel free to continue.

For a name change you need to buy a very large bottle of Rum first drink it and then row around your boat three times sprouting out her new name.
