Any suggestions for a small steel workshop in Sydney (say 25km from CBD) that can cut threads into stainless bar?
I telephoned a few Steel Fabricators that list in the Yellowpages, and they can all do it, but most of them want larger projects and are just not keen on drilling and tapping four holes in 25mm SS bar.
So I am probably looking to find a one/two-man shop that does small steel engineering jobs. Those forum members that live in Sydney; if you have used a small shop for small jobs that came out reasonably good I'd much appreciate a contact name or number. Thanks.
For what its worth, I have a good benchtop drill but am too wary of work hardening the ss or having a tap snap off to attempt it myself. A tap snap-off can be a real weekend wrecker.
Monty up on the Northern Beaches is pretty good for smaller jobs. I need to look up his business name though.

Re-sharpen your drill bit to a slightly more acute point, turn the drill bit as slowly as possible and finally, use plenty of lube.
Thanks for those workshop names, I've got four of them now - I'll be hitting the phone early in the week.
And thanks for the tip Loosechange, although tapping M10 and M12 into stainless still scares me.
