I planning a solar charger to keep the batteries topped up between outings. My battery bank is 2x105ah house and a starter.

Current plan is a 40w removable panel that will sit on deck and a PWM controller. I am guessing that I'll need a dual battery controller to charge both the house and starter.

Any recommendations? Particularly on the controller? I'm after something cost effective, should I avoid the eBay stuff like the plague?

Something like this perhaps

Many thanks.

This outfit seems to have some good gear.

A mate has hard wired a C-Tec charger into his boat and says it is the duck's nuts. They have one that does 240 and solar/wind eliminating the need for a separate regulator, it being the D250S Dual.

Not cheap but everybody says they are worth the money.

I have two 40 watt panels and two $13 controllers driving two 105 amp hour batteries. One panel and one controller runs one battery, does not get much simpler.

My sister has just fitted a range of flexible solar panels to her Valiant 40 to power her new fridge/freezer setup. They look to be a good option.
Has anybody and views, criticisms of the flexible solar panels. A couple of ok looking 40W ones with a controller are about $330 on eBay.

It is good idea to charge each battery through separate controller.
Considering, controllers are consumable items ( easily are damages if there is any mishap
on 12 Volts line ).
"Ramona " set up is recommended, you loose $13, One spare, would recommend .
