Grommets and glands are good for instruments fittings.
Believe that solar panels are all ready fitted with plugs,
You wouldn't wont to cut them, they just too big to feed them through.

I mounted panels to pilothouse roof, the cables throuhg the roof under the panels, lots of sikaflex in holes and then covered with clamshell ?? covers from whitworths, screwed down while the sika was still wet, clean up excess sika and hey a nice water proof protected through deck entry.
If you ever use cable glands (Whitworths or Jaycar), remember that they seal best using cable with a perfectly round circumference. Some types of twin sheathed cable are flat rather than round.
