I am racing a bit and own a Farr 740 sport............... I want to go faster and still have a cabin for overnighting, have been looking at Ross and Youngs to 8 m (want a trailer boat) any suggestions? Experiences? I want a boatequipped with bow spit and screecher. How good is balsa sandwitch compared to GRP? Had an epoxy over ply yacht and did not like it (prone to holes) but easy to fix.

Yes guys I like both ideas................. but my budget will be 25 to 30 k and I do not want to go to shares! The F22 is nice as well as the Phuket..... I wish to win the super draw this weekend! Thay was my new year resolution any way!

Look at the Elliot 780's they plane easily, have a cabin for staying in (more camping than glamping) and are affordable

Yes, +1 for the Elliot 7.8. Heaps of fun. Try to have a look at one with a "pop top" cabin. They are amazingly spaceous inside for their size.
Young 88 is an awesome boat but not trailable. There are some reasonably priced ones around. some need a bit of TLC tho.

I was thinking along the lines of a "Flying 15" with a boom tent, Esky and a disposable BBQ.

Looks good Cisco but a bit small, and no space for outboard (outboard would be a bit wet after capsizing)!
I want a bit of ofshore cruising as well hence GPS, plotter E Pirb and flares!

What about an RL 28, seems to meet your specs except maybe the speed .....compared to a Young or Elliot

Yes you are rite, the RL 28 looks like a nice comfy boat but would be a step back from my Farr 740 (speed wise).

I can find no information of that type of boat, it may well be a "one off".

Balsa coring as opposed to straight ply construction gives a much stiffer hull as you have a double skinned hull, whichever way the forces act, one skin will always be in tension while the other is in compression. The hull will also be quieter and better insulated. End grain balsa has very high compressive strengths. Should be a very nice boat form what I see, appears to be well set up.

Have you considered a Windrush Wildfire. Should be plenty over your way but they are so good not many people ever sell them.

Should be something amongst this lot to suit you.

Hi Cisco, looks like we share the same hobby (tyre hull kicking?) my favorit is that one
http://www.boatpoint.com.au/boats-for-sale/boatdetails.aspx?R=15850041&Silo=Stock&Vertical=Boat&Ridx=107&eapi=2
the only down is the plywood hull to much hassles.
The young rocket 780
www.boatpoint.com.au/boats-for-sale/boatdetails.aspx?R=16215268&Silo=Stock&Vertical=Boat&Ridx=275&eapi=2
is at my club and I would not put more than $10.000 at that price it will be there for some time she is a nice yacht but in timber and needs a BIG tlc. She is crying for a screecher and bow spit!
Need for speed looks good too and is in Perth (big $4k) bonus also in need of a screecher
www.boatpoint.com.au/boats-for-sale/boatdetails.aspx?R=16114212&Silo=Stock&Vertical=Boat&Ridx=300&eapi=2
As we say dreaming is free and my far is not sold (yet) I have no rush to sell so won't drop the price too much! That is the secret in the yacht trading game, I have never lost money on a yacht!

There was an aluminium Diamond for sale in WA not long ago which as I recall was modified to have a cabin and was about $5,000 I think.

That got me excited as I have sailed on a Diamond and they are really exciting, especially when on a broad or beam reach they start to humm. Literally.
