I removed my acrylic windows to get new ones cut. I taped up the openings with plastic and duct tape due to that last ECL.
Anyways, the job is done but i have the sticky residual from the duct tape all over my gelcoat.
If anyone has experience with this, I love to know the best way to get it cleaned up.
I am sure turps will dissolve it.
With that kind of thing I just go up the scale of solvents.
Metho, turps, thinners (various), methyl ethyl ketone, acetone etc. As long as the solvent will not attack the base ie gelcoat, you should be right.

Cisco,
methyl ethyl ketone…wow!, this is like a chemistry masterclass! No need for 457 visas here! Don't get me started…plenty of mates displaced with lack of oversight of this hallowed rule which supposedly solves our inability to supply home-grown talent.

I am about to go through the same thing and was going to cover with plastic and use duct tape.
how long was the tape on your boat for.
Two months, my plastic shop said they only needed 2/3 days to cut the new set. That ended up as 2 weeks. Lost my good weather window, then ECL, then trip to Italy
If you only need a short time you could use the painters tape that doesn't leave a residual
I'm installing the port side windows over the next few days and won't need to tape up at all
I used the 3m tape/sika method and it looks great
the tape to use when painting or anything on boats that wont leave any adhesive sticky mess is blue 3M. THats what we always used on the 100million dollar private yachts with their 3 mill euro paint jobs. green 3m is a bit stickier than blue but will leave a bit of adhesive on paint but not as much as duct tape.
its very sticky but if you find its not, put it on first then duct tape on the blue 3m.

Pleas please please be careful of the sika method. I had some windows put in by professionals, proper prep and primer, met him down the street 9 months later and he said "Those windows fallen out yet" - I thought he was joking, but no, a couple of months later they all started to quite literally fall out. Lincoln Sentry have the best system, 3m tape and structural silicone, lasts forever.

"Wax & Grease Remover" from Repco or auto shop works well for me - safe too.
Cleans most stuff up with very little effort.
In the adhesive sign business we have this problem all the time. If it's really bad, the best thing to do is soak a rag with metho, and try to leave it sit for a few minutes. Let the metho do the work for you. Keep it moist. Wax and Grease will work, but it's not as good as metho. If you want to buy a specific glue remover, there are a couple in the hardware called Goo Off or Oomph, both are Orange based adhesive removers. They will leave a slightly oily residue, which can be removed with metho. I guess it depends on how bad the residue is.

yep used the 2.1mm thick 3m tape plus the sika
Check this out guys.
I hust helped a guy do this to his boat. Altho he wasn't convinced enough to trust the tape and sealer so we put in every third bolt to give him peace of mind.
The job came up a treat but we had a hard time sourcing the tape and sealer cos I live in a small town.
I think you should be ok in a bigger metropolis.

good luck
It really does look great with-out heaps of screws around the windows'

I left masking tape on the boot line of a hull until the weather made it fall off. The local panel beater/spraypainter was horrified when he saw bits of old tape flapping in the breeze. He told me that the glue from the tape would be a pain in the butt to remove and recommended Xylene to remove the glue residue. I didn't worry about it and in a few months time (in Summer) the residue just powdered up and brushed off
I did use Goof Off ( from Bunnings) to remove all the contact cement glue that plagued the inside of my hull from the 80's style carpet and since I have used it to remove masking tape glue . The product seems to work best if applied to an area and worked before it evaporates.
