I'm moving to Tassie some time this year, wondering what sailing and who sails out of Strahan, I'll be based at Queenstown.
Hi Meg
Are you locked into living at Queenstown or or would somewhere else in Tassie be a option
Regards Don
Hi Meg
I have been there a couple of times over the years but have never done any sailing there
When you look on the Navionic online charts in Macquarie Harbour there is a large area of water with a decent depth so it looks ok for sailing and then you have the West Coast at you door step as well
I was talking to a bloke a few years ago from Launceston and he leaves his boat in Hobart and drives down to go sailing because he believed the sailing grounds were better down he so that could also be a option if Stahan was no good for you
Regards Don
As far as I know there is no racing there but might be some cruising/leisure boats based out of there
Buy a motor cruiser.
Either no wind so you motor or too much wind and so you anchor up.
And it rains quite a bit.
However possibly to last great Australian cruising ground which has not been done to death. Save for the Gordon river part.
Not really much of a motor sailor person, might end up sailing a Laser, always wanted to try this :) or just have some fun on a Hobie cat, or might buy something small and trailerable to bob around on, I don't really care as long as I'm out on the water and I can sail a bit, get a bit of peace xx.
Small and trailerable would give you so many options. Solves the problem of sailing around the coast, plus you can explore some of the amazing places in Macquarie harbour.
Lasers are hard work and no fun if there are no other Lasers around.

Agree with the Laser point. If you want a single handed dinghy to sail in Tassie buy a Sabre.
Cheap buying, comfy to sail and good fleets in Hobart and Deviot if you want to trailer it somewhere for fleet racing
Remember this is tassies west coast usually 4 seasons in the one day ![]()
Yeah, and most of those four seasons are wintery!

That is a bit unfair ![]()
On average it changes about every eight minutes
I once looked out the front window and it is a beautiful day and ask my wife if she wants to go for a sail and she looks out the back window and says no because it is raining
Regards Don
HAAA yes donk it is very changeable the west coast weather turn around twice and its a different day raining cats and dogs then burn your eyes out.
