G'day Sailors, am heading out to Swains next month . Do have the charts and indications of anchorages. However , does anyone have recommended anchorages ? Also keen to know of any preferred anchorages in the event of having to weather a blow?
Cheers, Bob

Tread carefully out there Bob. Available charts of the area, both paper and electronic, are not necessarily accurate.

I spent 10 days out there dory fishing years ago with a skipper who had re charted the whole area over the 20 or 30 years he had been working it.

It can be a very lonely place if you are a dory fisherman who has lost contact with your mother ship or you are a newcomer and do not know which reef is which.

The people you need to be talking with are the professional fishermen that make their living out there or the charter fishing skippers that go out there every week.

You will be hard pressed to nail one of those guys down as they come in of a Saturday morning and are gone back out again in the afternoon.

G'day Cisco,

Appreciate your experience with Swains , all noted . I will have the opportunity to , hopefully , catch up with a Fisherman at Rosslyn Bay , in the next few weeks.

Whilst the fishing at Swains is an attraction , the various anchorages could be a good hopping off point to other reefs all within a day sail. Anyhow , if all goes to plan , i'll report back. Cheers, Bob
