I am busy planning the 2016 Sydney Sailboat Expo and thought I would start a thread here to see if anyone had something they would like to see at the expo! Particularly in the way of workshops or seminars as they proved popular at the 2015 Expo.The 2016 Sydney Sailboat Expo will be held on the 9-10th April 2016 (10am to 4pm) at the International College of Management, Sydney (ICMS) in Manly. The Inaugural Expo in 2015 showcased the best in Sailing from Dinghies through to larger trailerable classes with the latest products on show, workshops and topics such as Splicing, Boat Maintenance, Sailing Fitness and more.
Make sure your Club and Association put it in their Calendar, better still make sure they take part in the Expo.

I'll be there again running splicing demonstrations and happy to answer any other questions :)
Anyone wanting a proper 'yachtie' boat show should make the effort to go, great setup, friendly people everywhere and best of all, everyone's a sailor!!!
how about race tactic sessions , start , beat ,reach and run . overtaking , approaching marks.... etc ....... ?
Tomorrow is 50 days to go! Here is a link to a video of last years action at the Sydney Sailboat Expo.

How about running talks about accidents and how they could have been avoided. I'm sure there must be a big data base somewhere of notable incidents.
Here's a couple of things that could be talked about
CO Poisoning
Man Over Board with no life jacket in rough conditions
People getting stuck up masts
Boats assuming the other boat will give way
Solo sailors lost overboard without a trace.
Sorting out who has right away in the protest room and not with the bow sprit.
Bit harsh Crusoe, shame the concept of self preservation and common sense has been lost.
Having a splicing demonstration where an answer other than look it up on u-tube would be good (yeah, I know it was not you rumble's
)
Harsh indeed! Teaching skills like winch maintenance, splicing etc should help with that sort of thing. We also have a rules talk. And funnily enough most people do learn to splice by looking at YouTube just like Nathan Outteridge learnt certain aspects of sailing before the last AC. Yes Rumblefish is the one running the splicing demo's with hands on learning.
