Wild Oats just beat Black Jack be 3 minutes. A top job done by the Black Jack crew considering the boat only went in the water last week and this was the crews first sail on it. Bring it on for the rest of the sailing season.
That's an amazing effort by the BJ crew against the king of Aus race programs. Congratulations to both teams on a hard fought race.
Can't wait to line up against them both on Friday, hope I don't get run over ![]()

yep a great effort !!! and looking good for the future !!!!!
This is Black Jack a few weeks ago at River Gate yard when I was down there getting my rigging remade by All Yacht Masts.
A plug for All Yacht Masts. The service, price and advice I got from them were excellent and I don't think you could do better in Brisbane. Joel, the shop manager, listens to you, reads what you are saying and gives expert practical advice.
I was short of a 10 mm length of double braid today and had to buy it locally for twice the price that All Yacht Masts sell it for. Possibly not as good a brand either.
I had a bit of time to fill in while I was down in Brisbane waiting for my rigging to be swaged so I had a bit of a seagull around the Brisbane River marine industry area. It was worth the look.
River Gate first:-

The keel on Black Jack appears to be canting. It has to be 15 foot deep which make me wonder where they park her when they win the Brisbane to Gladstone race.
With my further moseying around I went to a yard called "The Yard". Funny that. The Yard handles a lot of BIG fishing trawlers, tug boats and other commercial vessels. If you have a 100 foot, 600 tonne vessel, they can lift it out of the water and put it in a shed under cover.
So I was marveling over the 300 and 600 tonne travel lifts,

when what should I find?? There she was, the dear old SOLO, a veteran of the Antarctic and the yacht wrecking business of chartering in the Whitsundays. She may be retrievable but she is not looking too well.

A shame to see Solo looking like that. Sistership for sale looks slightly better - yachthub.com/list/yachts-for-sale/used/sail-monohulls/alan-payne-centre-cockpit-sloop-custom/177551 .

The photo above is of the old Black Jack 77 not the new Black Jack 100 which is the old Alfa Romeo and sister ship to Wild Oats.
Well done M3! First in Div 1!
Pete, Brento & the team are well please with the great result :-)
See Azuro got the overall prize.
Heard a story of them with the 20knt southerly with kite and blooper. Would be a hairy ride.
